Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries

Sharing is caring!

Sweet potatoes sitting on your counter. An air fryer you maybe don’t use enough. About thirty minutes to spare. That’s genuinely all this takes. Sound good? Then read on!

These fries aren’t trying to be fancy, honestly, they’re just plain simple to make and really – I mean reaaaally – good. The seasoning is simple but it’s tested and it works, and the air fryer does all the work on getting them ACTUALLY crispy, which is super important as we all know.

So let’s get right into it, shall we?

Ingredients

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 2–3 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon dry dill
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to Do It

Step 1: Prep Your Sweet Potatoes

To start, wash and peel all four sweet potatoes, then slice them into thin, even strips, basically think classic fry shape. The “uniform” part actually matters here! If some pieces are way thicker than others, they won’t cook evenly and you’ll end up with a mix of burnt and underdone fries in the same batch. I usually aim for about ¼ inch thick.

Step 2: Season Them Up

Toss all your sweet potato strips into a large bowl. Drizzle on the olive oil, then add the garlic powder, paprika, dill, salt, and pepper. Give everything a really good toss until every piece is coated. I like to use my hands for this; it’s a little messy but way more effective than a spoon.

Step 3: Preheat the Air Fryer

Now set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and let it preheat for about 3–5 minutes. Don’t skip this step! Starting with a hot air fryer helps the fries crisp up right away instead of kind of steaming in there at first.

Step 4: Load the Basket (in Batches!)

It’s now time to arrange the seasoned fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer. This is important – don’t pile them on top of each other or stuff the basket too full. Overcrowding = soggy fries, and we are not doing that. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you’ll probably need to work in 2 or 3 batches.

Step 5: Cook Until Crispy and Golden

Air fry each batch for 12–15 minutes, and make sure to shake the basket or flip the fries about halfway through. This helps them brown evenly on all sides. You’re looking for that nice golden color and a little crispiness on the edges — that’s when you know they’re done. Every air fryer runs a little differently, so keep an eye on them toward the end.

Step 6: Repeat with Remaining Batches

Once your first batch is done, pull them out and cook the rest the same way. I usually keep the finished batches warm in the oven on the lowest setting while the others cook so everything’s hot when I serve.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy!

Get those fries on a plate while they’re still hot — that’s when they’re at their absolute best. Serve them with whatever dipping sauce you love. I’m personally a ranch girlie but honey mustard is also incredible with sweet potato fries if you haven’t tried it. Enjoy!!
