Easy Christmas Trifle Dessert

Sharing is caring!

So last weekend I made this trifle. It was in preparation for Christmas as I’m testing a lot of recipes in advance and oh my gosh everyone loved it! Clear winner and most importantly it’s sooo easy to put together. My friend asked me for the recipe before she was done eating. That never happens because she doesn’t usually like desserts that much.

The best part is how it looks. Red and green layers everywhere, super Christmasy. And – it’s not hard to make at all! You do have to bake two cakes. Box mixes work great if you don’t have time. Then you just put stuff in a dish with layers. Easy!

I love using a clear dish. People can see everything inside. They think you worked so hard but really it was pretty simple!

Ingredients

  • 1 red velvet cake, baked and cooled
  • 1 green vanilla cake (vanilla sponge with green food coloring), baked and cooled
  • 3 cups whipped cream or stabilized whipped topping
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

How to do it

Step 1: Okay first you bake the cakes. Make one red velvet. The other one is vanilla but put green food coloring in it! You can use boxes from the store, that’s fine. Wait for them to get cold. Like really cold, not warm at all. If they’re warm everything gets weird and messy. Break them up into chunks with your hands when they’re ready. It feels fun to squish them!

Step 2: Get a bowl. Put cream cheese in there with powdered sugar and vanilla. Mix it until it’s smooth and there’s no lumps. Now add the whipped cream but do it gently. You want it fluffy! This stuff is what makes the trifle taste really good.

Step 3: Time to layer everything. Put some red cake pieces in your trifle dish first. Spoon cream stuff on top of that. Green cake goes next! More cream after that. Just keep doing this till the dish is full. Don’t worry about making it perfect, just make sure you can see the layers through the glass.

Step 4: The top should be cream. Then sprinkle red and green cake crumbs all over it for decoration. Both colors together look so pretty up there!

Step 5: Put it in the fridge now. At least one hour, maybe more. Everything needs to get cold and set up. I know it’s hard to wait because it looks so yummy sitting there. But trust me, waiting makes it better!

When you serve it just scoop down deep. Everyone should get all the layers in their bowl. It tastes rich and creamy. Super festive too! You might want to make this every Christmas from now on.
