Valentine’s Day Breakfast Board

So these breakfast boards are everywhere on Pinterest, and I personally absolutely love any excuse for a bountiful, delicious breakfast! Sometimes all you need are some waffles and croissants in your life…
I wanted to share with you a Valentine’s Day breakfast board recipe that I made! It’s for romantic, delicious and it looks really pretty. My partner liked it a lot.
Our recipe for heart waffles are the main thing. Then you add stuff you buy at the store – super simple, isn’t it? Berries too! And different things to spread on everything. February 14th can be a special day to celebrate, so this helps to start the day the right way! Takes 30 minutes which is not long at all. Plus it looks fantastic for pictures and Instagram! 😉
You need a big board. I used my cutting board made of wood and it was perfect! Change whatever you want to change. More cookies are good, different berries work, just do what you like.
Ingredients

For the Waffles
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Heart-shaped waffle maker
Accompaniments
- 2-3 mini croissants (store-bought or homemade)
- 4-6 slices Swiss roll, preferably strawberry vanilla
- 4-6 heart-shaped sugar cookies (or wholewheat sugar cookies)
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup Nutella (or any type of chocolate spread)
- 1/2 cup red jam (strawberry or raspberry)
- 1 cup strawberries, hulled and halved
- 1 cup blueberries
Optional Toppings
- Powdered sugar
- Honey
- Pecans
- Edible roses
- Sugar flowers/heart jellies
How to do it
For the Waffles:
Turn on your waffle maker that’s shaped like hearts. Mine is a couple years old and I don’t use it much but for Valentine’s it’s perfect!
Get a bowl and put in the flour and sugar and baking powder and salt. Mix it up with a whisk so it’s all together.

Now you need a different bowl. Whisk the milk and egg and vanilla in it. Then pour the wet stuff into the dry stuff but do it slow. Stir it until it’s smooth! Some lumps are okay don’t worry. Put the melted butter in and stir more.

The batter goes in the waffle maker now. Cook it how the instructions say to cook it. My waffle maker takes like 3 or 4 minutes I think for each one. This recipe makes 3 or 4 heart waffles probably.

Assemble the Board:
This part is really fun, I promise! Put your heart waffles on a big board or a big plate. You can put them all over the place, not just in one spot – get creative.

The croissants go around the waffles just put them where there’s room. Swiss roll slices go on next and the heart cookies too. I got my cookies from the store bakery but making them yourself would be cool if you want to do that.
Get small bowls for the cream cheese and Nutella and red jam. Little ramekins are what I used. Any small bowl is fine though!
Put berries everywhere around the croissants and waffles. Fill up the empty spots and make it pretty looking! You can’t really mess this up.

Use a small sieve to put powdered sugar on the waffles and croissants. Works really good! Honey gets drizzled on the berries and the cream cheese too. Optional toppings like pecans or those edible roses can go on now if you got them.
Eat it right away because the waffles are warm and that’s the best! Everyone just takes what they want and makes their own bites. Casual but also special at the same time.
