Christmas Tree Oreos

Sharing is caring!

These cookies are the ultimate super easy holiday treat. They look fancy, taste amazing, and secretly… they’re a snap to make.

Minimal fuss, maximum cheer. And you don’t need to be a pastry chef or channel Martha Stewart’s energy. You just need a little chocolate, some Oreos, and a kitchen playlist.

They disappear in minutes at parties. They look adorable tucked inside a cookie box for a neighbor or teacher.

Save for later:

And they taste like Christmas–that’s the easiest way to describe the feeling. Perfection isn’t the goal, fun is.

You ready? Because these chocolate-dipped, sprinkle-studded ornaments are about to star on your December snack table.

Ingredients

Let’s talk supplies. Only a handful, but every one packs a punch for flavor or fun. Here’s what you’ll need for a batch of 12 (though honestly, you might want to double up):

  • 12 Oreo cookies
The classic chocolate sandwich cookie is perfect, but try golden Oreos or a gluten-free version if you need a swap. Use any store-bought sandwich cookie you love.
  • 1 cup green candy melts
These little wafers melt into smooth, glossy magic and set up with a nice snap. You could use green-tinted white chocolate chips, but candy melts hold their tree shape better.
  • 1/2 cup white candy melts
For the snowy “base.” Swapping for white chocolate chips is totally fine, just melt them low and slow. They burn easily.
  • 12 star sprinkles
Absolutely necessary for topping the tree. You can use fondant stars, sugar stars, whatever’s in your sprinkle stash.
  • 1 teaspoon nonpareils sprinkles
Tiny, sparkly round sprinkles that play the role of ornaments. They’re the little pops of color you want. Substitute rainbow jimmies if that’s your thing.

Want a plant-based or dairy-free cookie?
There are dairy-free Oreos out there, and you’ll find vegan candy melts at most craft stores. Allergic to gluten? Gluten-free sandwich cookies work fine. Simple swaps, same festive look.

How to Make Christmas Tree Oreos

Grab your favorite holiday mug and play your Christmas playlist. The steps are easy. Make sure everyone’s hands are clean and gather around—it’s about to get chocolatey.

Melt the Candy

Pour the white candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring after every go, until smooth.

Do the same with the green candy melts in a separate bowl.

Don’t let them scorch! If your microwave is wild, switch to a double boiler for extra control.

Scoop the melted green candy melts into a piping bag or a sturdy zip-top bag. Snip off the tiniest corner—smaller is better.

Dip the Oreos

Take each Oreo, holding it upright, and dunk the bottom third into the melted white candy.

Give it a gentle tap on the bowl edge to shake off extra coating.

Set dipped Oreos on parchment paper so nothing sticks. Trust me, you need the parchment. Otherwise, things get… sticky.

Create the Christmas Trees

Pipe a zigzag from side to side over the top half of each Oreo. Don’t stress if it looks messy.

Trees aren’t perfect in the wild, right?

Decorate the Trees

While the green chocolate is still glossy, gently press a star sprinkle at the peak. Feels pretty magical already.

Dust a little shower of nonpareils over the zigzag tree for “ornaments.” Go heavy or light—chef’s choice.

Set and Serve

Let them chill so the candy coating firms up. Your fridge can handle this in about 10 minutes.

Once set, peel the Oreos off the parchment and admire your handiwork! Easy as that!

Instructions

  • Transfer the melted green candy melts to a piping bag.
  • Drizzle the green candy melts over the top of each Oreo in a zigzag pattern to create the look of a Christmas tree.
  • While the green candy coating is still wet, place a star sprinkle at the top of each tree.
  • Sprinkle the nonpareils sprinkles onto the trees to decorate.
  • Allow the cookies to set completely. You can speed up this process by placing the baking sheet or plate in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.
  • Once set, carefully remove the Christmas tree Oreos from the surface and serve.
